I've always been so into music but I've never been able to successfully put together a definitive "greatest albums of all time" list, mostly due to forgetting some here or there until inopportune moments. Not that this time will be any different, but here goes, alphabetical by album:

Top 10:

Messiah - 21st Century Jesus
Nine Inch Nails - Broken
Tegan and Sara - The Con
Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
Poe - Haunted
Ministry - Psalm 69
Urge Overkill - Saturation
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
Pixies - Surfer Rosa
Skinny Puppy - Too Dark Park

Runners-up:

Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction
Metallica - Master Of Puppets
Ministry - The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste
Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime
The Breeders - Pod
Primus - Sailing The Seas Of Cheese
Imogen Heap - Speak For Yourself
Ladytron - Witching Hour

Of course, lists subject to change without warning.

Time:10:32 am.
Music:Act 1 - Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.
So, as most of you probably know, I was a big Star Wars nerd for a while and then my friend Steve introduced me (read: began force-feeding me) the books. He got me going about a year and a half ago, and I've been reading them voraciously since then. I admittedly had copies of X-Wing: Iron Fist and The Crystal Star many, many years ago, which I read bits of but never really recalled. With this newfound interest, though, Steve had me start with Shadows of the Empire and from there I've been mostly moving chronologically forward -- X-Wing, Thrawn trilogy, Jedi Academy, Black Fleet, Corellian, Thrawn duology, even all 14 Young Jedi Knights plus the random ones in between -- and now find myself on the precipice of starting New Jedi Order. The only non-e-book in the period that I've yet to read is Tattooine Ghost, which I imagine I'll get to some day.

Now, I've accidentally spoiled enough major plot points in New Jedi Order for myself already by reading too far in Wookiepedia, or reading the back of the wrong novel in the store, or even when I first picked up a Star Wars book that, unbeknownst to me, was way too far in the future (which is what prompted Steve to start this whole onslaught in the first place). Regardless, though, I'm totally psyched to be at this point. I've been told that Vector Prime is arguably the most controversial book in the Star Wars universe, and that the series in general is pretty heavy. So, whee.

I started a spreadsheet a while back, based on the then-current listing of existing books from Wikipedia. According to that, I've read 37 of 117 (32%) adult books and 14 of 70 (20%) young adult books. It doesn't sound like much, but then I stop and realize that I've read 37 full-length novels in the last year and a half, plus 14 young adult books (~200 pages each), plus three or four non-Star Wars books on our honeymoon. That ain't bad, I guess.

So am I the only giant nerd on my friends list, or what? If not, make yourselves known though try not to spoil anything I've yet to read. Though yes, I do know of at least 3 major plot events in NJO or shortly thereafter. They involve Chewie, Jacen, and Anakin. Oh, I also know one about Mara. Make that 4. Do I have any surprises left?

It's Halloween at STM today. Here's me:

Shit, this is hot. The elevator was down, so I had to change out of the blades and walk up four flights of stairs. WHEE. At least I get to interview someone today.

I want to keep my money
And give away absolutely nothing
To the government
Who moderates my spending
And obliterates depending
On what time of the year
Brutality is near
In the form of income tax
I'd rather take a fucking axe
To my face, blow up this place
With you all in it, I'd do it in a minute
If I could write off your murder
I'd save all of my receipts
Because I'd rather you be dead
Than lose a tiny shred
Of what I made this fiscal year
I'd rather you be dead
Than to ponder parting with my second home
I'd rather you be dead
Than consider losing opening a restaurant

Not a statement on my political leanings, it's just a Dethklok kind of week.

The cat's out of the bag now that we've sprung it on Mo's dad -- for our next trip we're going to Tanzania for a two-week safari and we're bringing him with us. It's his life-long dream, literally. Telling him was almost as awesome as the trip is going to be.

LIONS RHINOS AND ELEPHANTS OH MY

I'm seriously psyched for this, which is odd as I'm usually hesitant and a bundle of nerves when planning an international trip. This is the biggest and most out-there we've done yet, just ahead of Thailand. We're going through an organizer -- this really isn't the kind of thing to fuck with yourself -- Thomson Safaris right over in Watertown. We popped in there for about an hour and a half a few weeks ago to talk over our thoughts and put down a deposit right there. They're pretty awesome.

So yeah, going to Africa. Lots of large animals that could eat us if they wanted to. And they're not fed by a zookeeper. Sleeping in tents on the plain! Guards with machine guns! Baby hippos! Fucking crazy.

Oh, and WoW enthusiasts -- we're going to Ngorongoro Crater. I'm assuming Un'goro Crater is named after it. No giant raptors in this one, at least as far as I know. It is the densest wildlife spot in the world, though. Apparently more so than South American rain forests, though I need to check on that. Not sure I believe it.

Today's Penny Arcade has only solidified my desire to play LittleBigPlanet. I've had this desire since the first rumors a year and a half ago, not long after the PS3 launch.

I do not have a PS3, though, and am quite hesitant to buy one just for a single game. Of course, one can also factor in the fact that I've gotten excited about, purchased, and only partially played a slew of games in the last few years -- Metroid Prime 2, Twilight Princess, Bioshock, and at the moment Braid and Force Unleashed (at least I didn't spend $50 on Braid and I'm still interested in playing through Force Unleashed, just don't have as much time as I'd like) -- so this could well be another in that line.

What is one to do? I don't think I even know anyone with a PS3.

With just now hearing "Lights Out" in a Bud Light commercial, I've now heard Santogold in three different commercials lately. Wacky.

Also, let's hear it for football.

Did anyone notice last night that the crowd at the RNC chanting "JOHN MCCAIN" sounded an awful lot like they were chanting "CHOCOLATE CAKE?"

I'll see if I can dig up a video, but wondering if anyone else noticed it. It was uncanny at times.

Edit: You can kind of hear it in the beginning of this one, though it was more clear where CNN's mics were.

Started playing Braid and Geometry Wars 2 last night, as everyone seems to be talking about them. I like both so far, though they're pretty different experiences. As I told [info]shotfrog, though, Geometry Wars 2 makes me feel like I'm too old for video games. It's like a rave.
